It's ok when it's used on the page only once, but people often put it under every post. That makes content on your friends page "jumps" up and down when the page is loading. It's almost impossible to read it until the entire page is fully loaded. The simple way to fix it is to disable the <lj-like> tag on the page. Download and install simple Safari or Google Chrome extension to block annoying <lj-like> tag on livejournal.com.
Download .zip file to your computer, unpack and install. You can always disable or delete it later if you do not need it.
