Bare Island is a small island in south-eastern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located about 16km south east of the Sydney central business district, close to the northern headland of Botany Bay.
Bare Island is connected by a footbridge to the suburb of La Perouse. Bare Island Fort was built in 1885 to protect “Sydney’s back door” – Botany Bay. On Sundays The Bare Island Fort is open for guided tours. Tickets can be purchased prior to the tour from the La Perouse Museum. Bookings are essential. Now the Fort provides a picturesque backdrop for a wedding ceremony with views over La Perouse. It is also a very popular fishing and diving spot. The island was featured in Mission: Impossible II.
