Terrace Falls, Hazelbrook, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia

Terrace Falls, Hazelbrook, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia

Usually this waterfall is very weak. But we’ ve had lots of rain the last few days. So last Sunday I spontaneously decided to go there just in case there was some water. Not too bad actually. Especially because usually it has only a few trickles. To get this shot I had to use ND8 and Polarizer filters just to get 30 sec at f11 and ISO 100.

If someone wants to go there here are directions: Drive to the Hazelbrook in Blue Mountains, turn left, heading the Hazelbrook train station. From Railway Parade turn to the Terrace Road and drive along it for about 2.5 kms. The Terrace Road is not suitable for low clearance vehicles. Park at the “Car Park 2″, marked with green arrow on the Google Maps. From the “Car Park 2″ follow a shot but very steep track down to the Terrace Falls. Be very careful, as the rocks at the waterfall are extremely slippery at all time. Also there is no reason to go there if the weather is fine and there wasn’t any rain recently.

June 23, 2009 - 1:58 am Carsten - I'd like to go there :ø) -But perhaps its better to search a waterfall on this continent.. It is a very beautiful photo. The composition is excellent. Magnificent colors. No wind,I suppose.

June 23, 2009 - 10:48 am Ilya Genkin - Thanks a lot, Carsten! Trust me, there are a lot of excelelnt waterfalls outside of Australia. :-) At least you've got Alps in Europe. Gee... I miss mountains!!! I really miss high mountains!

June 23, 2009 - 11:17 am Michael Olive - Beautiful shot Ilya, you seem to get amazing greens where normally a digital camera would not be this punchy, is it in your post processing? Thanks also for the directions to these places will have to try them out some time.

June 24, 2009 - 9:35 pm Beau - Fantastic colours as usual, Ilya, and a neat composition.

June 25, 2009 - 11:39 am Matt Lauder - Nice one... this spot is next on my list. Sounds like I will have to take the Jeep to this one and not the Mazda 323.

June 26, 2009 - 9:35 pm Ted Szukalski - Great capture. I really like the lush greens

June 28, 2009 - 9:52 pm Ilya Genkin - Matt, spare Mazda. :-)

June 28, 2009 - 9:54 pm Ilya Genkin - Michael, thanks! This is actually the combination of the weather (rain to clean all dust), polarizer (to eliminate reflections from leaves) and post processing.

June 28, 2009 - 9:58 pm Ilya Genkin - Beau and Ted, thanks a lot guys!

June 28, 2009 - 10:45 pm Tom Parkes - Great composition Ilya, great location and lovely to have a long exposure with none of the ferns blowing. Good work.

June 30, 2009 - 7:30 pm Ilya Genkin - Thank you very much, Tom!
