Northern Tien-Shan Mountains, View from Almaty City, Almaty, Kazakhstan

Made this photo a three years ago on the last trip to my home city, Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan. The highest mountain on the photo is Small Almaty Peak and it’s 4376m (14,357ft) high. It’s interesting that Small Almaty Peak is actually much higher than High Almaty Peak which is only 3700m (12,139ft)...

The Grampians National Park (Gariwerd), View from Boroka Lookout, Victoria, Australia

The Grampians National Park doesn’t like me for some reason. It’s just constantly resisting my attempts to explore and photograph it. This time my wife caught a bad cold and had to spend Christmas and Boxing Day in a motel. I even thought to cancel the trip and go back straight to Sydney instead going...

Gold and Blue Mountains

I like the view of layered mountains ridges compressed with long telephoto lenses. The top photo was made at sunset on the top of Mount Wellington, Tasmania. The bottom one was made in Mt.Buffalo National Park, Victoria, Australia.

Misty Morning, Mount Buffalo National Park, Victoria, Australia

One more image from Mount Buffalo National Park in Victoria. Morning was showy at 5am, then rainy and then just foggy. I was hoping to shoot sunrise but without any luck. Instead there was excellent “waterfall photography” weather. So I’m not complaining at all.
Good photo spot on Google Maps.

Wallace’s Hut at Sunrise, Falls Creek, Victoria, Australia

Wallaces Hut is the oldest of the huts still standing in the Alpine National Park. Originally built in 1889 by the Wallace brothers Arthur, William and Stewart, close to the Bogong High Plains Road just out of Falls Creek, from slabs of snowgum. In the 1930’s its woollybutt roof shingles were replaced by the State...

Northern Tien-Shan, Almaty, Kazakhstan

Northern Tien-Shan, Almaty, Kazakhstan. Roughly 3000m above sea level.
From my film archive. Shot long time ago with my Contax (I still love it!) and 16mm fish-eye on color negative film. Color negative film is like a roll of plastic film on a spool with light-sensitive layer that people put into old photo cameras instead of...

Hanging Rock. Baltzer Lookout, Blackheath, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia

Hanging Rock is a huge sandstone rock over 100m high near Baltzer Lookout, that has become detached from the main cliff. It has featured in many calendars and climbing photos, and was also the site of the main climbing scene in “The Edge” movie.
To get this picture I had to do a bushwalk at 3...

Pulpit Rock Lookout, Grose Valley, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia
