Li River Cruise, Yangshuo, China

Cruise the Li River (Li jiang river) from Guilin to Yangshuo is the highlight of any trip to Guilin and Guangxi province in China. It is actually one of the most scenic cruises on earth. The landscape is decorated with rolling hills, steep karst cliffs, fantastic caves, leisurely boats and is lined with bamboo. The scenery along both banks is just like Chinese paintings and has inspired poems. There are many scenic places along the Li River including a scene near Xingping village which is printed even on the back of 20 Yuan banknotes.

A long waited update on my web site again. A couple of improvements in the design (yes, still old-timey web design, but very fast and lightweight one):

  • Navigation has been changed to allow easy access to parent galleries and photo categories.
  • Latest posts from the Travel Photography Blog and latest images on the web-site right on the front page for easy access.
  • You can subscribe to the latest images and the web-site latest news using RSS feed.

From now on, as a professional photographer, I am offering free high quality photos for use on private websites and non-commercial blogs in return for a valid html link to my website. Panorama of Lake Matheson at Sunrise, Lake Matheson, South Westland, South Island, New Zealand

New Zealand is absolutely fantastic place. I love this country very much, so when I heard that Christchurch was destroyed by earthquake I was shocked. At least 113 people are dead and 228 more are missing after a 6.3 magnitude tremor struck Christchurch, only five months after the city was hit by a 7.1 earthquake. So aftershock brought death and much more destruction to the city thank the larger quake that rocked New Zealand on 3 September last year. Terrible. Terrible and sad.

The Murray River is Australia’s longest river. The Murray rises in the Australian Alps, draining the western side of Australia’s highest mountains and, for most of its length, meanders across Australia’s inland plains, forming the border between New South Wales and Victoria as it flows to the northwest, before turning south for its final 500 kilometres (310 mi) or so into South Australia, reaching the ocean at Lake Alexandrina.

Despite we travelled a lot in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia we didn’t see the Murray River too much except a few campings on the shore near Mildura. So, after the Mungo National park we decided to travel along the Murray River. I must say there are very beautiful palaces there. Unfortunately there is one typical problem – if you are there during midday when the Sun is high then everything looks quite boring. But at sunrise or sunset everything looks really nice and I scouted a few nice places for sunrise/sunset photographic sessions. Unfortunately due to limited time I shoot only at the Big Bend. The Big Bend in South Australia is the longest single bend in the Murray River. It’s located between Swan Reach and Nildottie towns. The area is known for its spectacular riverside cliffs, which are the tallest along the Murray River. The Big Bend is also a favourite spot for artists and photographers.

The sky was cloudless and strong wind was trying to blow away my heavy tripod but I managed to make a nice image when the wind dropped a little bit for a few seconds. Anyway I’ll definitely return to the Murray River soon as there are plenty of photographic opportunities.
