Somersby Falls

Brisbane Water National Park , Central Coast, New South Wales (NSW), Australia

Somersby Falls is a picturesque natural wonderland located in the Brisbane Water National Park in Central Coast of Australia. It is actually a pair of attractive cascades located off Somersby Falls Rd. To physically see the falls you have to step down stairs to a viewing area. This short walk starts from the Somersby Falls picnic area and follows the series of waterfalls along Floods Creek. The main falls drop onto a large rock platform and are best viewed after rain. The area is set in a rainforest and the moisture can be felt in the air when visiting. The picnic area provides barbeques, picnic tables, toilets and ample parking. This walk could make part of a great family day out in the area.

The first falls is down some steps near the car park and is quite pretty as it tumbles in several steps towards the smooth bedrock below. The shorter lower falls is a short distance further downstream reachable by more descending steps. Soon the steps end, and in order to get good photos of the lower falls, you have to do a little bit of scrambling and crossing the stream. Do watch your step as you go down to the lower falls as the mossy path can get a little slippery in spots and the rocks around lower waterfall are quite slippery at all times.

Somersby Falls is in Brisbane Water National Park on the Central Coast of New South Wales some 70km or so north of Sydney (about 1 hour drive). Head north from Sydney on F3 Sydney-Newcastle Freeway and take the Somersby/Gosford exit and then turn left to the Wisemans Ferry Road. After about 1km at the roundabout take the 2nd exit (Wisemans Ferry Rd) and then 1/2km along at the roundabout take the 1st exit (Somersby Falls Rd) which leads to the National Park and car park (metered parking, no entry fees).
