Golden Whip Stream

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park , Wulingyuan National Park, China

The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a unique national forest park located in Zhangjiajie City in northern Hunan Province in the People's Republic of China. The park is known for its unique quartzite formation of hills and its forests, which bring together all the natural wonders of grandeur, strangeness, quiet, wildness and elegance. It really deserves the laudatory title of "Three Thousand Hills and Eight Hundred Ethereal Waters" and "Shrunken Fairyland and Overgrown Bonsai."

Wulingyuan is a scenic and historic interest area within the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, famous for its approximately 3,100 tall quartzite sandstone pillars, some over 800 meters in height, which are a kind of karst formation.

Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve is located in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, close to the Suoxi Valley. It is named after the farmer Xiang Dakun of the Tujia ethnic group, who led a successful local farmers' revolt and called himself "tianzi". This means "son of heaven" and is the traditional epithet of the Chinese emperor. The Tianzi Mountain is dotted with nearly 100 natural platforms for sightseeing, more than 2000 stone peaks and dozens of waterfalls and springs. The sea of clouds, the wavelike stone ranges, the snowscape in the winter and the sunrise are the most spectacular. The surrounding spots are mainly composed of Yu Bi Feng (Imperial Brush Peak), Xi Hai (West Sea), Tian Zi Ge (Heaven’s Son Pavilion), Shen Tang Wan (Shentangwan Gulf), and so on.

Golden Whip Stream (Jinbian Stream) is famous for its pristine water, its verdant mountains, its steep cliffs and its serene valley. As a veritable "paradise" for plants, its pathways are adorned by an abundance of flowers, trees, and grasses. And it is also a kingdom of animals. Golden Whip Stream is named after Jin Bian Crag, its landmark spot, and runs from Laomo Bay to Shui Rao Si Men(water-surrounded gates). The major spots along the stream include Yingbin Crag (greeting crag), Jinbian Crag, Zicao Pool, Qian Li Xiang Hui (long distance meeting between man and woman), Shui Rao Si Men (water-surrounded gates). Golden Whip Stream is a very deep and quiet winding stream where can be seen many green hills and colorful flora and the song of birds can be heard. The 7 kilometer long stream is one of the most charming features of the scenery of Zhangjiajie. It has been called "The Most Beautiful Valley in the World."
