Jacaranda at Wilsons Outlook Reserve
Brisbane, QLD, Australia

While Jacarandas are not native to Australia, this South American flowering tree has become immensely popular. Every year whole parks and streets around Brisbane turn purple as these trees shed their leaves to flower and the the ground beneath becomes a carpet of flowers. Brisbane has a number of great places for Jacarandas. Nature tends not to follow a strict timetable and an exceptionally warm spring can lead to early blooms (some years up to four weeks earlier than expected) and different varieties of the tree will bloom at different times. In Brisbane expect to see some early blooming Jacarandas at the end of September with the height of the season normally being the last two weeks of October, with the last blooms fading in early November. Like many suburbs in Brisbane, the Jacaranda tree has been tastefully and carefully planted along the riverside at Kangaroo Point and Wilsons Outlook Reserve. What an amazing scene - the river, the city and blossoming purple plumes.
