National Carillon at Sunrise
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Australia

At sunrise, the National Carillon on Queen Elizabeth II Island (formerly known as Aspen Island) emerges in a cinematic palette of teal and orange. The tower's angular Brutalist lines reflect the dawn's glow, standing tall at 50 meters above Lake Burley Griffin. Gifted by Britain in 1970 to commemorate Canberra's 50th anniversary, its 57 bronze bells, cast by John Taylor & Co., span nearly five octaves. The 2019 addition of the Ngunnawal Bell honors the region's Indigenous heritage. As the sun rises, the Carillon's silhouette and resonant chimes offer a serene start to the day.
Any photo in my collection can be made as a stunning black & white print.
