Explore the river by foot with an easy stroll around the banks of the River Yarra. Flinders Station with its heritage facade is your historic starting point. Walk over the Princess Bridge whilst admiring the rowers huffing and puffing in the waters below. The Melbourne Arts Centre and its towering spire greet you as you arrive at the southern side of the river. The Gallery of Victoria is adjacent with its ever changing exhibitions. Take the steps past the Arts Centre down to Southbank and its bustling cafes and bars. Wander along the Promenade along with other walkers, cyclists and joggers. It's the perfect vantage point to take in Melbourne's city skyline. Just a few hundred metres and your arrive at the Southbank pedestrian bridge with its distinctive curved architecture that will take you back to the city side. Stop mid-way for a drink or a coffee at the unique Ponyfish 'island' bar under the bridge and in the middle of the Yarra. It's a perfect spot to take in the evening dusk and admire the flotilla of boats, cruises and rowers maximising use of this great natural feature. Follow the bridge over the Yarra passing the collection of padlocks giving it a very Parisian feel. A short stroll east back towards and under Princess Street Bridge brings you to the arches alongside Federation Wharf with the Riverland Bar and its abundant range of beers, wine and refreshments to enjoy at any time of the day. It's a great place to end the day people and river watching.
