Bathed in the fiery hues of a Roman dawn, the Trevi Fountain awakens in golden silence. The marble figures of Oceanus and his Tritons glow with warmth as the first rays of sunlight spill across the Piazza, igniting the cascading water with shades of amber and rose. Behind the fountain, the grand facade of the Palazzo Poli stands dignified and radiant, its Baroque details softened by the morning light. The usual crowds have yet to arrive, leaving the scene serene and timeless - a rare, dreamlike moment in the Eternal City where history, art, and light converge. The Trevi Fountain or Fontana di Trevi in Italian is an 18th-century fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, Italy, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762 and several others. Standing 26.3 metres (86 ft) high and 49.15 metres (161.3 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. The origins of the fountain go back to the year 19 B.C., in which period the fountain formed the end of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct. The first fountain was built during the Renaissance, under the direction of Pope Nicholas V. Interestingly enough, the name of Trevi derives from Tre Vie (three ways), since the fountain was the meeting point of three streets. The building directly behind the Trevi Fountain in Rome is the Palazzo Poli. This historic palace, originally constructed in the 16th century and expanded in the 18th century, was specifically altered to serve as the monumental backdrop for the fountain. The Baroque south facade of Palazzo Poli was designed by architect Luigi Vanvitelli under the direction of Nicola Salvi, the creator of the Trevi Fountain, to integrate the fountain seamlessly into the palace's structure. Today, Palazzo Poli houses the Central Institute for Graphics (Istituto Centrale per la Grafica), and its grand Sala Dante offers exceptional views over the Trevi Fountain. The palace has a rich history, having been owned and renovated by several prominent families, and remains an important cultural and architectural landmark in Rome.
